Presbytery Work

About us
Presbytery comprises of the ministers and representative elders from the congregations in its area. Presbytery generally meets monthly at St Kane's Church Centre, New Deer. and additionally for special purposes such as inductions and the setting apart of Readers. Some of the Presbytery business involves the routine but important administration of the church, often dealt-with by committees. It also approves the movement of ministers in and out of congregations, and ordains them when they are called to a parish for the first time. Presbytery is a court of the Kirk and once a year it elects and sends Commissioners to the General Assembly.

Business Committee : Convener: Rev Ian Thorburn

Receiving, training, education of all in a ministry - Ministers, Readers deacons, elders; Superintendence & pastoral care of these and chaplains.

Ensures smooth running of the court; arranges meetings & services of Presbytery; correspondence; membership matters; working with Clerk; appoints Nominations Committee; Legal advice.

Putting forward to Presbytery names for committees & Presbytery positions; each member serve on one other committee.

Encourage Christian social care; information on social care & responsibility in C of S; Secular education matters; National or political issues; Ethical & medical questions

Mission & Discipleship Committee: Convener : Rev Bob Fowlie

Information, encouragement on outreach in Presbytery area and Scotland; World Mission information; Mission to children and young people; safeguarding of children & adults.
